Not in Love With Girlfriend Anymore
Dear Ms. HeartBeat:
I don’t think I’m IN love with my girlfriend of two years any more. I just don’t what to do.
She seems to be more in love with me than ever before, and it shows no signs of slowing down. I’m so deep into the relationship, because of the relationships we’ve built with one another’s families, that I’ve dug myself into a deep pit.
I still care for her, and always will, but I feel like I’m stuck. I just don’t want to hurt her feelings. I’m only 20 and she is 18. What should I do?
Ms. HeartBeat Responds:
Stop being a chicken! You are making excuses. If you don’t want to be with the woman anymore, tell her. After 2 years you owe her that honest.
Leave out the "I don’t love you anymore" part though. Just tell her that you feel you are too young to be so involved and you want to experience being single before you settle down. Tell her that you aren’t ready for what will be expected by both families if you two stay together for another year or two.
Tell her that you are sorry and this hurts you too, but that you know it is the right decision because she is just as young and inexperienced as you are.
That takes the blame off her and doesn’t make her feel that something is wrong with HER. Instead it puts the responsibility on YOU which is where it rightfully resides.
